GES Study Leave with pay is a benefit that allows teachers and staff of the Ghana Education Service (GES) to pursue further studies while receiving their salary. It is a way of enhancing the professional development and career progression of the GES workforce. However, not everyone is eligible for this type of leave, and there are certain requirements and conditions that must be met.

Requirements for GES Study Leave with Pay

  • To apply for study leave with pay, you need to have worked for the GES for at least three years since you graduated from the College of Education.
  • You can apply for study leave with pay if you are working in a district or school that is considered deprived by the GES.
  • You have to choose a course that is approved by the GES director if you want to get study leave with pay.
  • You are not eligible for study leave with pay if you are doing a second or third-degree course.
  • You are also not eligible for study leave with pay if you became a Principle Superintendent through a sandwich programme.
  • You cannot get study leave with pay if you are 55 years old or older.

Eligibility for GES Study Leave with Pay

  • You need to work for the GES for at least five years before you can apply for study leave with pay.
  • If you teach Mathematics, English/ Linguistics, Science, or French, you have to wait for two years after you start teaching before you can go for study leave with pay.
  • If you come back from Secondment, you have to work for another two years before you can qualify for study leave with pay.
  • If you leave the GES and come back later, you have to work for five more years before you can get study leave with pay.
  • If you get study leave with pay, you have to work for at least two more years after you finish your course.
  • You cannot get study leave with pay if you are a teacher and you want to do a course that is not for teachers.
  • You also cannot get study leave with pay if you are not a teacher and you want to do a course that is for teachers.
  • You cannot get study leave with pay if you want to do a part-time course or programme.

How to Apply to GES Study Leave with Pay

  • To get an application form and a personal Record Form, you need to go to the District Education Office. You can also download the forms from this link.
  • You have to fill out 4 copies of the application form and attach certified copies of your certificates.
  • You have to send your applications to the Regional Director through the District Director or the Head of your Institution.
  • The Regional or District Directors have to make sure that the Director of HRMD at the GES Headquarters gets the list of all the applicants by the end of May every year.

Are non-teaching staff qualified for GES study leave with pay?

Both teachers and non-teachers can apply for the GES study leave if they want to do ICT programs. But only non-teachers can do Supply and Logistics, Laboratory Technician, and Library and Information Studies programs with the GES study leave.
